We didn’t know much about Naxos until my cousin told us how much she loved it when she spent time there for her honeymoon. We booked a few nights on the island in between the more well-known destinations of Santorini and Mykonos and once we arrived, we were kicking ourselves for not allotting more time there. Don’t get me wrong, those major tourist spots are popular for a reason and I wouldn’t suggest skipping them, but I definitely recommend adding Naxos into the mix if you can!
Here are a few of my favorite photos from our trip…I hope they inspire you to book a vacation there soon!
We stayed at Naxian on the Beach, which was one of my favorite hotels we stayed in the whole time we were in Greece. It had a beautiful bohemian-style decor, was literally across the street from the most beautiful beach, and the people were so friendly and welcoming. When we booked this hotel, there weren’t many good reviews on hotels.com because it was fairly new, but we took a chance and were so happy we did! They served us a complimentary glass of wine when we arrived while we waited for our room to be ready.
The bohemian-style rooms were the absolute cutest and so comfortable! We had a jacuzzi on our lanai, but since it was so hot when we visited in August, we ended up not using it. If you can, I’d opt for the room with the hammock on the lanai instead! Plaka Beach was the best place to relax and soak up some sun. The water was calm and cool and clear enough to see straight through to the bottom. It reminded me of Lanikai Beach in Hawaii.
The bartender, Hlias, at the bar at Tortuga Naxos was the most talented cocktail artist I’ve ever met! Living in Hawaii, I’ve had many, many Mai Tais. This was by far the best I’ve ever tasted! The sunsets are worth the stay alone!
The beach went on forever – we walked for hours each morning as the sun came up and turned the sky these pink and purple hues. The food, the cocktails and the freddo espresso were all to die for! The stuffed tomatoes and Naxian cake from Petrino was delicious!
The breakfast at our hotel was fantastic. Fresh green juice, Greek coffee, eggs cayana (eggs scrambled with tomatoes and feta) and tons of fresh fruit!
The little we saw of Naxos made us want to go back and visit again as soon as possible. If you have the chance, check out Plaka Beach and stay at Naxian on the Beach if you can. You won’t regret it!
